while I was read the book of THE EFFECTIVE ENGINEER, I found this sentence and I am not sure if is it correct or not

The key to answering these questions

the surprising thing is that can we use to with gerund

 I think to is a preposition, so they used gerund

I think that "the key to" sentence is an idiom,  so the preposition "to" ain't related to the gerund

I'm not sure , but it looks logically.

Actuall, I'm not familiar with this structure, but I'm familiar with another one wich is

 " be used to"

For example: I am used to getting up early
